Yes, I loved Iron Man also. And of course Superman is wonderful and Spider Man and Bat Man are also superheroes. But what about a dude named Hancock? If you haven’t seen the surprise hit of 2008, Hancock, starring Will Smith and Charlize Theron, you definitely should go out and rent it now.
Basically, Hancock stars both Charlize Theron and Will Smith, although Theron shows up too late for my taste. The idea is that Will Smith is a bum who is also a super hero. He is tearing apart down town Los Angeles and making a mess until a guy (played by Jason Bateman) gets saved by him and decides to try to help him remake his image.
The movie goes on from there in a predictable fashion. The man decides to call himself Hancock after a fan asks him to sign his John Hancock and he doesn’t know what that means, so he simply signs the paper, John Hancock. It becomes a feel good movie until midway through, our hero must fight the bad guys once more, but just then, Charlize Theron shows up in Hancock’s life and boom, things are different.
I’m not going to give away the entire movie, but I will reiterate that I feel that Charlize Theron’s character gets short shrift in the movie. Theron really doesn’t show up until more than halfway through the film, which I suppose makes sense since if she did, she would have killed the lead character (Will Smith as Hancock). But still, with such hotness as Charlize available, it seems to me that the writers did a real disservice to movie goers everywhere when they didn’t find a way to use her more.
Still, I suspect that if there is a new Hancock movie, Charlize Theron will get top billing since we would want to find out the origins of the friendly neighborhood bum cum super hero. Those who have seen the movie will understand what I’m talking about and for those who haven’t, please do rent it. It’s awesome.
Oh, and for fans who have already seen it, there is still no word on the possibility of a new movie. Nor is there any word if Charlize Theron will reprise her role in the New Hancock. All we know is that there are rumors circulating that a new movie is under development and it may come out in 2012.
